I am feeling on edge this week for no apparent reason. The weather has been lovely, I have a cat sitting next to me supervising my work and its Friday. Why am I feeling so uncomfortable in my own skin? Maybe its my body anticipating upcoming changes in both my personal and business life. Sometimes we assume that discomfort is a sign that we are doing something wrong, but I think most of the time it is the opposite. Discomfort means that we are moving outside our comfort zone towards new things. Growth will feel uncomfortable a lot of the time. I’m trying to lean into the pain and move through with some gardening and hiking and friendship this weekend. I hope you have you’re own summery plans this weekend too!
We are all learning as we grow on this new platform and would love to connect with you. Please comment, save, share and let us know what you think and what you need from us!
First, a quick rundown on what you may have missed on She Means Business this week!
We are currently posting 2-3 times per week with new content and then a weekend round up of our posts and other inspiration. Here’s what we talked about on our substack this week:
A good credit score is more than a dating app flex.
If you’ve ever been on a dating app, you’ve probably seen some guy flexing about his credit score. While that screen grab showing his FICO foxiness might not impress you, a good credit score WILL impress lenders and open doors. So, how exactly does a good credit score help you get ahead and more importantly, what can you do to boost it?
Learning to Let Go
When you first start a business, you are often doing all of the jobs, all of the time because you have more time than money. While you sit and stare at your email or phone waiting for new clients to connect with you, you have plenty of time to post on Instagram or catch up your bookkeeping. But as you grow, you will have to find ways to pass off some of…
See beyond the numbers
Growth isn’t always easy to see, especially when you’re in the middle of it. Kind of like going to the gym for weeks, only to feel like you still look like a baked potato. But just because the gains aren’t obvious doesn’t mean they aren’t happening. Sometimes growth is subtle: lifting five more pounds without realizing it, not getting winded on the stai…
Inspiration from others this week:
I am also actively seeking out inspiration and new connections here on Substack and in other places. I am slowly finding the community I’m looking for, but if you have recommendations or if you are a small business creator, definitely connect!
Here is my Weekend Round Up in no particular order:
Holy crap this is an amazing analysis of the current economic climate and the internal factors that are driving so many of us to leave traditional employment and forge our own path. It's a longer read, but so worth it.
I feel called out as I wrestle with my petulant teenager of a business. Thanks for the kick in the pants I needed Maya!
I first discovered Maggie Smith (the poet, not the dame) through her poem, Good Bones {it will make you cry, you've been warned}. I started listening to her book Dear Writer on my road trip last weekend. She talks about an idea that I have been kicking around in 2025: we are all creatives, even if we aren’t making art. As business owners, we are constantly building something from nothing, improvising, collaborating and constructing a life we love. This podcast episode speaks to that as well and I love her insight and perspective.
I hope your weekend brings growth and reflection!
